Why Event Rental Companies Are Losing Summer Bookings to Competitors Online

February 24, 2025 · 5 min read

Customers planning parties and events are Googling tent rentals, chair rentals, and bounce houses months in advance. If you're invisible online, your calendar stays empty.

Bookings are won online, months before the event

A couple planning a backyard wedding in June starts Googling tent rental options in January or February. A parent looking for a bounce house for a July birthday party is searching in April. If you're not showing up in those searches, you're not in the conversation — and by the time they find you, they've already booked someone else.

Most event rental companies have the same blind spot

We know this because we ran one. We used off-the-shelf rental software to manage bookings and inventory. It was great for processing orders we already had. But it did absolutely nothing to help new customers find us. No SEO. A broken Google Business Profile. No website worth mentioning. We were invisible while competitors with worse equipment were getting all the summer bookings.

What customers search for (and what you need to rank for)

Think like your customer. They're typing things like 'tent rental near me', '10x20 canopy rental Chicago', 'chair and table rental for party', 'bounce house rental this weekend'. These are high-intent searches — the person is ready to book. You need a website with those exact phrases on it, backed by a properly set-up Google Business Profile with your service area clearly defined.

Photos and reviews close the deal

Event rental is a visual business. Customers want to see your tents set up, your chairs in a real venue, your equipment in good condition. A Google Business Profile with 20+ genuine reviews and a gallery of real event photos will convert far more enquiries than a plain listing. After every job, send your customer a review link. It takes them 30 seconds and it builds your ranking for months.

Don't wait until spring to fix your online presence

By the time you notice your summer calendar is light, it's too late to fix it. SEO takes 2–4 months to take effect. If you want a full summer season, your website and Google presence need to be in order by February at the latest. The rental companies that dominate summer bookings in their area started working on their online presence the previous autumn.
